Tempelhof Airport was in the American Sector of West Berlin, so it was only logical that Pan Am base their Internal German Service flights here. Unfortunately, the airfield was barely sufficient for jets like these 727s. Anything larger—especially their intercontinental 707s, DC-8s, and 747s—would have to be flown out of Tegel Airport in the French Sector; which they gradually moved to between 1964 and 1975, and would remain until their post-Cold War demise.
