1981 Western Airlines ad Swapmeet Thursday scan by Dying In Downey on Flickr.
In the California market, Western served SFO and SMF from LAX. On those routes, they ran a promotion where five round trips would earn one a pass for $50 off their next flight. Which was quite a discount, considering airfares back then.

Ringsend based An68 Atlantean D747 carried a somewhat appropiate advertisement for a time during 1985!
Quite fitting that it should carry the first version of the “Northewst Orient” airlines add which featured a Boeing 747 in the graphics!
Northwest Orient as they were then known were a major American carrier flying transatlantic routes into Ireland. As I have mentioned before in my photostream by some odd quirk of fate the vast majority of airlines advertising on dublin’s buses either went bust or stopped serving Ireland alltogether. Northwest only lasted two seasons!
